Get into training opportunities that provides knowledge, skill, and
confidence to seek, secure, and retain employment in the Renovation,
Remodeling, Repair and Maintenance Industry. We will send you to a program where an instructor approved to provide training, instruction and administer tests will cover relevant areas associated with working on
residential construction projects, which helps to ensure compliance of Occupational
Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Housing & Urban
Development (HUD), and Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) regulations in reference to lead paint
abatement. It may also cover areas helpful to pursue opportunities that may lead to general pre-apprenticeship
occupations. 1.
Assess personal skills, abilities, interests, and attitudes; 2.
Identify appropriate job targets; 3.
Develop and utilize sources of job leads; 4.
Properly complete a letter of application and follow-up letter; 5.
Properly prepare personal resumes and employment applications 6.
Successfully contact employers and arrange interviews; 7.
Participate confidently in any employment interview, and 8.
Obtain employment earning wages above the federal poverty level. |
Any and all employees who perform activities that have the potential to
disturb lead containing materials (LCM), such as lead-based paint (LBP), must
receive state accredited training prior to engaging in these
activities. Individuals that attend training in the field of employment will learn about the historical uses of lead, the health
effects of lead exposure, the OSHA Lead Standard, EPA and HUD Regulations
regarding lead, personal protection equipment, and proper safety procedures for
removing lead-based paint and handling materials containing lead.
Topics
covered include: where lead is found today, historical and current uses of lead,
health effects, medical monitoring, personal protective equipment, testing for
lead, hazard control activities, engineering controls, legal liability,
insurance considerations, community relations, supervisory skills and practices,
and waste disposal.
*Certification
These courses must be provided by individual's approved to conduct the training activities and administer examinations that meet the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Housing & Urban Development (HUD), regulations and requirements for individuals supervising, overseeing, or working on projects involving the disturbance of lead-based paint.

All persons interested in
construction trade services (e.g., Carpentry, Painting, Renovation, Remodeling,
HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Modernization, Repair, Maintenance, etc.) on houses
built before 1978 are encouraged to enroll for professional training.
The objectives of IBSA's program is to
facilitate an individuals access into programs pertaining to construction trades
so that they may do their jobs in a manner that will greatly reduce the
likelihood of exposure to environmental hazards. Training by individuals and
firms authorized to conduct such; and administer examinations is currently
regulated for any and all persons
that work on federally owned or federally assisted/funded residential dwelling
units that were built before 1978, when any work in that structure will impact
at least 2 square feet of a surface area.
The reason is
due to the fact that persons in construction related trades have a much higher
incidence of causing lead poisoning, including the poisoning of their own
families, than most all other trades.
Individuals that choose our program will be assisted in their endeavors to enter a program offered by a HUD Approved instructor; which must be accredited by the EPA. Our efforts also are to help Contractors, State Agencies, Community Development Corporations, Public Housing Authority's, and employers comply with new EPA, HUD, and/or state regulations.
Part of IBSA's intent with this program is to help assist the above in meeting their
federal and/or state compliance efforts by facilitating the production of qualified and certified
Workers and Supervisors as it related to environmental hazard removal and
handling.
