Youth/Adult Development Center
The Downtown Topeka Youth/Adult Development Center (YDC) is an initiative sponsored by IBSA, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides employment and training services to the low-income and disadvantaged community. To meet the identified needs of youth from underprivileged neighborhoods and timely employment training activities for adults, IBSA has enjoined others in the community to establish a Center City facility that provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth to socialize, study and access other youth-based organizations and activities. The YDC – Downtown will offer after-school tutoring and academic help, opportunities for community service and volunteerism, specialized workshops on career choices, and other services that may be provided by onsite nonprofit partners. Small, Medium and Large businesses or organizations are welcome to partner with the Center in order to provide tangible work experiences through OJT or apprenticeships, special programs covering health & nutrition, civic participation and community leadership. Transitional living space will be developed to assist youth aging out of foster-care or for those single parents needing emergency shelter as a short-term support service.
